This Book in a Song: Feel Again by One Republic
Winter is the fourth and final book in the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. It is a retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves set in Meyer’s futuristic world. The first three books (Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress) are also fairy tale retellings. The characters from those books star in this last book as well. Winter is the beautiful stepdaughter of the Lunar queen, Levana. Having decided many years ago not to ever use her Lunar gift, Winter suffers from hallucinations. Despite this, Levana considers Winter a threat, and tries to have her killed. Meanwhile, Cinder and the crew of the Rampion plot their rebellion against Levana. They travel Luna to rally their army to end Levana’s reign once and for all.
I have been waiting for this book to come out ever since I finished Cress last year. Winter did not disappoint. It is action-packed and filled with suspense. I enjoyed the development of the characters and their relationships from the last books to this one. Recently I have started watching the show Once Upon a Time, which is also retellings of classic fairy tales and stories, so I found some of the ways that Meyer connected her science fiction novel with the original fairy tale really creative. My only complaint is that the end seemed rushed and unfinished- there definitely should have been an epilogue.
