This book in a song: Tell Her You Love Her by Echosmith
Wendy Higgins, the author of the New York Times bestselling Sweet Evil series, reimagines a classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale with The Great Hunt, a dramatic, romance-filled fantasy with rugged hunters, romantic tension, and a princess willing to risk all to save her kingdom.
When a monstrous beast attacks in Eurona, desperate measures must be taken. The king sends a proclamation to the best and bravest hunters: whoever kills the creature will win the hand of his daughter Princess Aerity as a reward. The princess recognizes her duty but cannot bear the idea of marrying a stranger—she was meant to marry for love—until a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention. And while there’s no denying the fiery chemistry between them, Princess Aerity feels that Paxton’s mysteriousness is foreboding, maybe even dangerous.
Paxton is not the marrying type. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He is determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast—but the princess continues to surprise him, and the secrets he’s buried begin to surface against his wishes.
The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins is an adventurous fantasy novel telling the story of discrimination and sacrifice in the kingdom of Lochlanach. Princess Aerity must sacrifice the freedom of falling in love to secure the safety of her kingdom. There is a monstrous beast terrorizing the kingdom and she will do anything to protect her people. One of the many hunters who have come to kill the beast is Paxton Seabolt. Paxton is quite frankly very rude but we see he does care for one person, his brother Tieren. He keeps telling himself that he has only come to protect his town but deep down he knows his motives are beginning to change. Many people blame the Lashed for the beast. The Lashed people are able to heal people with just a touch, but they can also kill with a touch. Not only does this book have an awesome map but it also has a thrilling story line.
I have been waiting for this book for a while now. After reading Wendy Higgin’s Sweet Evil trilogy I could not wait for her next book. The Great Hunt was okay. Honestly I was expecting more of a romance story like the Sweet Evil trilogy. Aerity is a very likable character, her taste in guys, not so much. She is witty, kind and willing to do anything to save her kingdom. Paxton was a rude character who spends most of the book trying to drive Aerity away. But on the positive side, each character is full of surprises and secrets. The story does keep you intrigued and the mystery of the hunt is interesting. (Can not wait to see how this stuff plays out in the next book.) I choose ‘Tell Her You Love Her’ by Echosmith because this is exactly the advice I would give Paxton.
