This Book in a Song: I Choose You by Sara Bareilles
In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.
Maddie doesn’t believe in luck. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment —
In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun… until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.
Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?
With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.
We received this advanced readers copy from Y’all West in Santa Monica. This book was on the top of our list of book to get at the book festival. We waited in line for an hour. Needless to say, the book did not disappoint.
Lucky in Love by Kasie West is more than a story about a girl who won the lottery. It is a story about Maddie, a girl who learns that she cannot control everything and along the way, Maddie learns to trust herself. It was everything that makes a Kasie West book so lovable. While being cliche, at sometimes cheesy, there is an undeniable sweetness factor. We always say that her books are a Hallmark movie in a book.
One thing I love about all Kasie West books is how much I am able to connect with characters and the story. First of all, the story takes place in Santa Anna/Orange County/Tustin, an area I am very familiar with. Secondly, Seth Nguyen, the love interest of the story, is the perfect guy for me. He loves filmmaking, reading, movies, and even beach volleyball. How did Kasie West read my mind!
Overall this book was short and sweet. While it is not my favorite Kasie West book, it is definitely a must read!
Make sure to buy this book when it comes out on July 25, 2017!!!!!!!
